Why only sell in your neighborhood when you can sell to the world?

example2 2 Amazon: Videos on Product Detail PagesAmazon.com is quietly Retailer’s capability to submit videos for individual product detail pages. Amazon has been using video for several years to promote movies, books and specific products they launch themselves such as Kindle. This is the first time this capability has been opened up to Marketplace Retailers.

The requirements for these videos are particularly stringent. Videos are required to be 30 to 90 seconds in length. They must be submitted in the Windows Media format. The Retailer’s name cannot be in the video and the Retailer needs to have rights to use the video as well.

When retailers submit, they will be required to provide a list of all the specific detail pages the video is to be matched to. Retailers should expect to provide an ASIN list to facilitate product and detail page matching.

These files will also be submitted outside the usual channels for product uploading. Instead of submitting through Amazon Services Seller Central, Seller Desktop or XML Feed, the Retailer will be required to submit video directly to the Category Manager.

When the video is accepted and posted to a specific product detail page, a new button will be available for Customers to click and view. The button is directly below the product image gallery and is marked with the word ‘Watch’.

Overall this should be quite an advancement in product sales, tearing down more walls that seperate the experience of seeing and handling a product in a traditional brick and mortar store setting and seeing a product online.
